Surgical Technologist Student

Purpose:
To receive Surgical Technician training and learn to perform a variety of tasks in an operating room that assist the surgical team through work study activities in surgical services support areas related to didactic learning competencies while attending surgical technology classes. Arrange sterile setup for surgical procedures, including prep and positioning of patients; pass instruments, sponge and suture to surgeons and surgical assistants; prepare sterile supplies; assist in cleanup of the operating room; check placement and operation of equipment; and check and restock operating room. During surgical procedures may be responsible for special trays, graft materials, and record patient data.While training as a student, will also assist the surgical team as needed. All activities will be performed under the supervision of a Surgical Technologist (ST) or Registered Nurse (RN).

Responsibilities:

• Attend the 20-month associate degree program to learn the following skills/duties: Pre-Operative, Intra-Operative, and Post-OperativeComply with all Surgical Technician training program policies and procedures, including safety, personal conduct, and dress code.Successful completion of the training program will result in the student receiving an Associate Degree In Surgical Technology and be qualified to move into a Surgical Technician permanent role.*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.*Performs other duties as assigned.
