Surgical Technician Jobs in Rochester, MN

A Surgical Technician, also known as a Scrub Technician or Operating Room Technician, plays a critical role in the medical field. They primarily assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Their duties include preparing the operating room, arranging equipment, and assisting doctors during surgeries. They are also responsible for maintaining a sterile environment to prevent the risk of infection. In addition to these, they often help in transporting patients and preparing them for surgery.

For this position, essential skills include attention to detail, physical stamina, technical skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. They should also have the ability to work under pressure since surgeries can often be immediate and unpredictable. Most Surgical Technicians hold a postsecondary nondegree award or an associate's degree from an accredited surgical technologist program. Moreover, they often hold a certification such as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C), which are nationally recognized certifications in the field. Before becoming a Surgical Technician, an individual might have been a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, or even a Phlebotomist, as these roles provide relevant experience in patient care and medical procedures.
